Please… I lived in DC when this racist politician was caught in a hotel room with a hooker and crack cocaine. Please do not attempt to minimize the actions of this mayor, the fact that he was re-elected and the crimes that he is clearly guilty of. He is recorded on film and seperate audio repeating the phrase “Bitch set me up”.
I found it impossible to comprehend how this man could have been re-elected after only those things that I had seen while in DC. Now I find there are more folks who want to jump on the “he was setup by white folks”. We are all Americans and its about time we act like it.
Black, white or green, this man is a disgrace.

Saying that black people have it hard enough is such ignorance. People who still live in 1960 like the person who posted that make me laugh. Black people are getting everything they want including jobs, black only media, and still are asking for more. If it were up to me I would invest my time into helping my own people out of poverty and overpopulating the jail systems and less time worrying about what “white folks” are doing.

IMO, minorities do still face a fair amount of adversity and have a number of hurdles to overcome, and people can take various steps to aid them in this, but defending Marion Barry should not be one of them. He’s a convicted felon, found with crack and other drugs on him several times now, and as mayor almost ran DC into the ground both times. And if you knew him and what he’d done and some of the things he’s said in the past, these quotes would not come across as so obviously phony as some of you (Anne, Thanks Anne and Scott) seem to think. It’s true they’re outlandish and hard to believe, but given his history I believe they are entirely within the realm of possibility, even with the Snopes article which didn’t disprove the quotes, but just said, in essence, that it was hard to believe they were accurate.

I have lived around DC my whole life. Barry is a disgrace & embarrassment to his race & does not deserve anyone’s defense or pity. About twice a year he has some sort of run in with the law, usually when he’s in his car. Or not paying his taxes for years. Or deciding not to report a burglary esp. when it involves thousands of dollars of watches when his assets are being officially examined because of his tax problems.
Barry is an arrogant SOB crackhead and has used race baiting when it helps his own agenda.
